What are geographers doing?

This paper, published in the influential journal, Universities Quarterly (Winter 1969, after I had left the Institute of Education but written earlier) is closely related to other of my works such as What is a geographical factor and my critique of Paul Hirst in The Forms of Knowledge Again (see another page here under Philosophy.) I was pleased when it was included with another essay of mine in an anthology; Perspectives in Geographical Education (1973) edited by Norman Graves, the head of my department at the Institute, and two other notable teachers in the field.
