In 1973 I attended an informal model flying club meeting and was shocked to discover that many modellers were still relying on out of date and erroneous theories that had been in vogue fifty and more years before. I started to write a series of corrective articles in simple language, intending them for the Aeromodeller. I soon realized that there was need for a book. I approached Ron Moulton of the magazine publishers MAP (Model and Allied Publications) and was encouraged by him to go ahead. The result was the first edition of Model Aircraft Aerodynamics which was published by Argus in 1978. It was immediately successful and was well reviewed, not only in hobby magazines but in high level academic journals.
With minor revisions, further editions followed, the fourth, by Nexus Spacial Interests, much improved in layout and appearance. This remains the only book of its kind in English. A German language version was published by Motorbuch Verlag. In 2002, to my astonishment, a Chinese language edition appeared.
