Jane Addams

Jane Addams

I became interested in Jane Addams because I came across her name when reading about the pragmatic educational theories of John Dewey which had profound influence  on the American educational system in the early twentieth century. My article about Jane, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, was published in Discourse, the Australian Journal of Educational Studies, in April 1989, soon after I had visited Hull House in  Chicago where she had established her famous and remarkable settlement a hundred years before.
